Fast field screening solves a different problem from laboratory certification.

At a tournament, a director may need to decide whether a paddle should be investigated. In a factory, an engineer may want a quick comparison between production lots. In a club, a paddle that suddenly feels unusually powerful may justify additional screening.

UPA-A says it uses a Go/No-Go machine onsite at professional events. The device measures paddle deflection and is used as a proxy correlated with its laboratory power metric, PEF. That makes GNG useful—but it does not turn one deflection reading into complete paddle certification.

Use GNG for Complaint Investigation

When a customer reports that a paddle suddenly became unusually powerful, compare the returned unit with a retained production sample and, if possible, the approved baseline. Record GNG/deflection result together with thickness, weight, visible damage and production lot.

If the returned unit is an outlier, escalate to deeper inspection or lab testing. If the retained lot shows the same shift, investigate the production process rather than treating the complaint as an isolated player issue.
