“Having pickleball on a quarter would truly put Bainbridge Island on the map,” Pritchard says. “A coin circulates for decades, even centuries. This means pickleball would become an undeniable part of American sports culture—something young people everywhere will see, recognize, and maybe even try.”
It all started in the summer of 1965, when Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum invented pickleball to entertain a group of kids. Armed with ping-pong paddles and a plastic ball, they improvised a game on their backyard badminton court.
